CHRISTA/ SEATTLE/ HYPNOTHERAPIST AND NUTRITIONIST/ KETTLEBELLS
This week we are high-fiving FiTONIC’s Athlete Spotlight: Christa King. Christa talks about the importance of balancing your cravings with staying on track with your fitness goals. Her former job left her stressed so that she was turning to unhealthy foods and drinks to help cope with it. Now with a huge career shift, and mental games shift she shares her wisdom with us to help us better understand our health and balance.
What is your fave way to train (running, yoga, CrossFit, weightlifting, dancing…)?
How did that become your thing?
I tried a class for the first time in 2012 and was instantly hooked. I’ve always been a fan of strength training, but I love how primal it feels.
How has training physically changed you mentally or emotionally?
It’s everything. I’ve always considered myself an athlete, but from 2002 through 2012 I really got off my path. I went from running marathons to barely walking every day and overindulging in food and booze to manage my insane stress levels - of course not knowing that was making it worse.
Going through the process of leaving my corporate career and becoming a certified hypnotherapist and nutritionist brought me back to the essence of me - reclaiming my inner athlete. It’s again become the foundation for ensuring great sleep and an elevated mood; not to mention how confident I feel with an increased self-esteem.
What is still hard for you about your training, fitness or nutrition?
I am learning every day what moderation looks like for me in relation to sugar and alcohol. Some days I can have just one cookie or a glass of wine, but most days I just can’t and so I’m learning how and when to honor that.
What is the mantra in your head that you hear most often when you train?
“I am strong. I am worthy of wellness.”
What do you love most about your body?
I love how easy it is for me to develop muscle tone.
If you have worked with a coach, what’s the most important lesson you learned from that person?
To honor my body and not feel at all ashamed of modifying. I modify a lot.
If you could tell only one thing to every woman who is struggling in her fitness journey, what would that be?
Make 75% of your plate veggies then fill in the rest with healthy fats and high-quality protein. You’ll never have to count a calorie again.
What goal are you going to crush next??
In 2018 I completed 3 half-marathons. In 2019, I will reach my goal weight and shoot for being a fitness model at 47!
BIG thank you Christa for being our FiTONIC’s Athlete Spotlight!
